Where it started
I don't think people buy media walls because they need somewhere to hang a television. I think they're building the room where life actually happens once work is done for the day, and that idea shapes everything I build.
It started in 2003, in the workshops of Rome, an apprenticeship where I learned to build and fit furniture for some of the city's most historic buildings, including restoration and fitted furniture work within Vatican-owned properties. That's where I fell in love with carpentry: the precision, the patience, the pride of building something that lasts.
In 2007, I moved to the UK and started again from the ground up, training as a kitchen fitter, then growing into kitchen and bathroom installations. Over the years I became a qualified plumber and gas engineer too, building Deal Installations and Maintenance Ltd from nothing. Today I build bespoke media walls across Sutton, South London and Surrey.
But carpentry never left me. It's still where my heart is, and Built.Calm is where that passion lives now: custom media walls, built with the same care I learned in Rome over 23 years ago.
Somewhere along the way, I found meditation. It changed how I saw a room, and how I saw my own work. I started noticing how much the space around you shapes the way you actually feel once you sit down in it, how a cluttered, mismatched wall keeps some small part of your mind busy even when you're trying to switch off, and how a considered one lets you properly rest.
That's really what a media wall is, to me. Not just a TV and some shelving, it's the spot where you collapse onto the sofa after a long day, where two people share a bottle of wine and a film, where the kids pile in for Sunday morning cartoons. Built properly, it becomes the calmest corner of the house.
Even today, I still build every media wall myself. No subcontractors, no sales team. If you call Built.Calm, you get me.
That's where the name comes from. Built.Calm isn't just wordplay, it's the whole idea. I build the wall. You get the calm.
